Session type description

There are many types of sessions which are presented in different ways. Below is an overview of the different kinds of sessions.

  • Keynote
    Presentation by an invited speaker, addressing a central theme of the conference from a big picture perspective.
    (Duration: 60 minutes including Q & A)
  • Papers
    Presentation of several peer-reviewed papers which will be in the proceedings of the conference. There are two types of papers
    • Long Papers
      In-depth research papers, technical papers, or case studies
      (Duration: 20 min. presentation / 10 minutes Q & A)
    • Short Papers
      Concise reports on work-in-progress or emerging topics (max 4 pages)
      (Duration: 10 min. presentation / 5 minutes Q & A).
  • Panel
    Presentation of a topic, with a group of invited experts discussing a specific topic, and a moderator who will guide the conversation. The audience will usually be invited to interact in the discussions.
    (Duration: 45 including audience interaction)
  • Posters
    Posters are visual presentations of projects or ideas, encouraging one-on-one engagement. Posters are presented both at a “Minute Madness” session and at a Dedicated “Poster Presentation” session.
    • Minute Madness
      Each poster is presented in a 1 minute pitch talk by the presenter(s)
      (Duration 1. Half of the posters: 45 minutes, 2. Half of the posters: 45 minutes)
    • Poster presentation
      Presentation offering attendees the opportunity to see the poster and discuss the work with the presenter(s) virtually or on site.
      Throughout the conference, the posters will be displayed onsite and online.
      (Duration 1. Half of the posters: 90 minutes, 2. Half of the posters: 90 minutes)
  • Bake Off
    Session where presenters demonstrate their solutions, while allowing participants to observe the process and verify their claims. Read more hear.
  • Workshop
    Interactive, hands-on sessions focusing on tools, methods, or best practices.
    (Duration: varies from 90 – 180 minutes)
    Tutorial
    Educational sessions or demonstrations aimed at teaching participants new skills or technologies relevant to digital preservation. Tutorials are structured to provide a clear learning outcome and can range from beginner to advanced levels.

  • Birds of a Feather
    Informal discussion-driven gathering for like-minded individuals to connect as a community or to discuss niche topics without a rigid agenda.
    (Duration: 45 minutes)
  • Lightning Talks
    5 minutes high-energy, concise presentations covering recent developments, specific themes in digital preservation, or new project ideas.
    (Duration per talk: 5 min. presentation / 0 minutes Q & A)
  • Games
    Video or tabletop games that explore, illustrate, or amplify aspects of digital preservation.
    (Duration: 30-90 minutes)
