Sustainability and Legacy

iPRES 2026 will leave a lasting impact on Copenhagen. It will bring attention, a broader local reach and a strengthened community to overcome digital preservation challenges together in an ever-changing world. Yet, we must acknowledge that a conference also leaves a less positive footprint on the host destination, including carbon emissions (transport) and substantial material usage. Copenhagen is a city and a destination with a strong focus on sustainability and green transition. Consequently, we have a responsibility to address these climate challenges. Therefore the iPRES 2026 Local Organising Committee is dedicated to maximising the lasting positive effects and lowering the climate footprint as much as possible.

Food and Beverage

Ensuring climate-friendly food and reducing food waste have a significant impact on an event’s climate footprint. We aim to lower the climate footprint by minimising food waste and choosing local, seasonal and primarily vegetarian food at the main venue, receptions and social dinners.

Main Venue – CPH Conference

The main venue for IPRES 2026, CPH Conference, is Green Key certified and relies 100 % on renewable wind power.

CPH Conference has strong ethical food principles that support the local organising committee’s vision to lower the climate footprint.

By embracing a plant-based and green food profile, health naturally takes centre stage both in terms of the environment and well-being. As part of the sustainability agenda, CPH Conference has worked to make the menus even healthier for both the body and the environment. CPH Conference has received the Danish organic ‘spisemærke‘ in bronze. The bronze label means that we offer 30–60% organic food and beverages.

Other initiatives at CPH Conference to support the sustainability agenda:

  • We phase out all plastic packaging with the goal of using only sustainable, biodegradable, or recyclable packaging
  • We use only seasonal ingredients
  • We calculate the CO₂ footprint of food production, down to the dish level
  • We use local suppliers whenever possible
  • We do not offer genetically modified products or foie gras
  • We use only products that meet high ethical standards
  • We use only MSC- or ASC-certified fish and seafood

Hotels

The hotels recommended by the IPRES Local Organising Committee are all Green Key Certified and part of the SBTi initiative (Science Based Targets Initiative), which is a non-profit corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

The recommended hotels are within walking distance of the main venue and reception venues.

Local Transport

All venues on IPRES 2026 are within walking distance or can be reached via public transport.

The local organisers encourage all delegates to walk, bike or use public transport. If trips by taxi are necessary, we encourage the use of electric taxis. Companies like Taxa 4×35 and Dantaxi offer electric vehicle fleets.
